Iowa and Other Things

Hello friends!

I’m sorry that I haven’t updated this in a while.  The beginning of the semester was a rough one, and I ended up doing more planning for my trip to Iowa than shooting.  But alas, I am in Iowa right now, making as many pictures as I can, and will be posting them as soon as possible.  I’m also honestly going to finish my website soon and then I will be a real artist.  I wrote an artist statement for my most recent body of work, Homestudy, so perhaps I’ll post that soon, too!

So far, Iowa has been a wonderful experience.  It’s really great to get up in the morning knowing that my whole day is going to be devoted to taking pictures and nothing else (except maybe feeding myself).  I’ve met a lot of really wonderful and interesting people, and hopefully made some good photographs.

Also, I woke up today to a phone call from SMFA telling me that I won first place in the Yousuf Karsh Prize in Photography.  I am so honored and also very excited! It’s such good news and maybe it’s obnoxious, but I just had to share it.  My dear friends Linda Pagani and Rob Chamberlain (who was also one of my sexiest models) won second and third place, which is amazing news, too!  Oh, happy day.

p.s. If you want to follow me on my non-photo blog, please do. It’s milkshakesandpancakes.tumblr.com. kthanksbye.

Here’s a crazy photo of my studio this past weekend at open studios! (Note: on the back wall on the left, there are traced letters, it’s not blank.)
